GM’s Corvette Stingray Hybrid could be the future of American sport car industry
Amazing concept from GM – Corvette Stingray Hybrid waiting for a real engine and a green light. One of the jewels of the 2009 Chicago Auto Show, the Corvette Stingray Hybrid concept still rocks our world with amazing exterior and interior styling.
Corvette Stingray Hybrid concept have exterior design inspired by the most popular Corvette’s ever — starting with the 1959 Corvette Stingray racer concept, the iconic split rear window from the 1963 Stingray and front wheel arches and side coveys from more modern generations. As noted by designer, all this is mixed with distinct, classical aeronautic lines for 21st century.
Unfortunately, there is no amazing technology that we can reveal here. Per GM instructions new Corvette Stingray Hybrid will be powered by powerful hybrid engine – V8 petrol GM engine will be married with already tested GM hybrid system, pack of batteries and regenerative breaking technology. Don’t expect great fuel economy. But do expect signature of growling V8 performance of the Corvette Stingray Hybrid.
In expectation of new GM Corvette C7, we could hope this is a mild preview. But many sources claiming it is not. The Corvette Stingray Hybrid is just a design study. Pre concept car. Will GM ever take iconic American performance car as Corvette to hybrid technology? I reckon they should not. GM should make electric plug-in Corvette C7 and get into fight with Porsche 918 Spyder, Jaguar c-x75, BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics, Audi E-tron, Mercedes AMG SLS E-cell and other electric sport cars. Maybe you noticed that there is no American car in above list of the electric sport cars? Well, that is the real battle field. And Electric Corvette Stingray could be the true winner.
