Wow! BMW Plug-In Supercar in Production!
Wow. I really didn’t expect this one. BMW just revealed on their blog that prodcution on amazing new plug-in diesel coupe The Vision EfficientDynamics will start! On sale guys! Amazing.
Concept was revealed at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and won the manufacturer several awards for its innovative design and clean technology. The Vision EfficientDynamics uses three power plants to propel the winged 2+2: a three-cylinder turbo diesel engine along with electric motors at each axle. Car can operate using its electric motors, diesel engine, or a combination of the two. Full throttle, the trio produces a total of of 328 horsepower and has a 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds. Real supercar performance.
Even better is fuel economy achieving 75.1 mpg, less than Toyota Prius. Using only its lithium polymer battery, the Vision EfficientDynamics has an electric range of 31 miles and with support of diesel engine can reach 435 miles. Battery can be charged fully in 2.5 hours using a conventional power socket.
For sure there will be a few small changes in design, but this is still a big announcement by big car manufacturer. BMW will start production of diesel-electric supercar. Good staff!
